Advertisements

Robin Hood Ad:
The ad I chose was the Robin Hood ad for all purpose flour. This commercial shows two siblings talking about the memories they've had from baking muffins using, Robin Hoods all purpose flour. I think techniques that were used in this commercial were: cartoon, humour and family. The most dominant technique would probably be that it's a cartoon. It catches the attention of people, not a lot of commercials are animated and some people like watching cartoons because it either brings them back to there childhood or reminds them of other animated characters. I think these techniques were used in this commercial because people would remember it more. I think that this ad was effective because I remember watching it about a year ago and when I see Robin Hoods flour I would think of this commercial.

Persuasion

Persuasion:
When a company tries to convince the person to buy their product (advertisements). In class we talked about the different topics of persuading someone into buying their products, the topics were: humour, macho, friends, family, fun, nature, sexy, cartoon celebrity and wealth. We played a game which involved us finding the different ways of persuading in commercials, or another form of advertisements. We each had partners and had all of the topics in an envelope. we would take out one topic from the envelope and find an ad that used the technique. Then our partner would have to guess what our topic was. Who ever found all of  the topics and had emptied their envelopes would win.

Techniques:

Humour:  Something that would make the viewer laugh.(ad)

Macho: Strong, tough (usually male). being dangerous.(ad)

Friends: A group of people doing things together, having fun.(ad)

Family:
A family enjoying themselves, or the product.(ad)

Fun: A person or people being happy or laughing.(ad)

Nature: An ocean, desert, beach something outdoors.(ad)

Sexy: Usually a female(s), models, may show revealing clothes. or acting in a flirty way.(ad)

Cartoon: an animation of people or animals. humour may also be involved.(ad)

Celebrity: a famous person (singer, actor/actress, dancer, athlete). (ad)

Wealth: Showing more expensive clothes, or a richer house (bigger house, nicer car). (ad)

Siloam Mission

Siloam Mission
The topic I chose for this project is Siloam mission, Siloam mission is an organization in Winnipeg that helps the homeless by giving them food and a place to stay. They also provide clothes and help find jobs for the residents. Siloam Mission is a Non-profit organization and Christian humanitarian agency. This foundation is a strong believer of god.

"We believe that unless we experience God’s help and salvation through a faith commitment to Jesus Christ, our future is one of eternal separation from God and all that is good."(Siloam)

How They've Helped
This organization has helped many people through the tough time in there life. Jill was a former resident of Siloam, she came to Siloam after her husband and herself had a divorce and she had no where to go. Now she is back on track with her life and has made a goal for herself to go back to school and also to get a job working in a nursery."I came to Siloam Mission and they straightened me out, offered me a chance to get myself back together,My life and my attitude toward homeless people have changed 110%.” (Jill).

Brent was another former resident of Siloam , he started off as a soccer player in Portugal . When he left Winnipeg to go to Portugual he grew an addiction to cocaine. When he came back to Winnipeg he went to Siloam and they helped him with his addiction. Now he is a Full-time worker in Siloam.“They’re offering a job and they care for you, so… you can’t beat that,”(Brent).

On Thanksgiving, 900 meals were served. The demand of food has gone up by 15%  over the last years. However they still manage to serve 400-500 people a day (Writer).

This organization never judges people by what they are going through or what they have been through. They care more about them feeling at home and let them know that they are loved.

"We want to be an organization that sees people for who they are, not for their situation or circumstance in life." (Sarah Enns)

Siloam Mission has been around since 1987 and I think that shows how dedicated and how much they really care about each person who walks through their door everyday. So many people go through things in there life. I'm guessing that being homeless is a scary thing, being alone, or having a family to support but not being able to .But no matter how many people there are, Siloam Mission is always there to help. I think that gives people a lot of comfort, hope and lets them know, that they're not alone.
