Photo Anaylsis

Lighting:
Lighting can either come from the above, side or bottom. Lighting is important because it make the viewer look at the picture differently. If the photo was darker or it was lit from below, the photo might look more scary if it's bright it would look more happy or more of what we see everyday.

Camera Angle:
A photo can be angled at either, eye level, above the subject, below the subject, not squared or slanted. these are all important to the way a person would look at it, if the viewer was at eye level with the photo, they may feel more equal to the person. However if the photo was taken from below the subject the viewer might feel small and if it was taken above they might feel larger. for the photo to be slanted or not squared the viewer may think that the subject is uneven or unstable.

Proximity:
The distance of the photo could be really far from the subject, medium long, medium (face), a close up or an extreme close up. if the subject was very far away or at a medium distance, it could be how the viewer would see people everyday and would feel normal to them. if you were at a medium distance from someones face it could be how the people talk to each other and the closer the subject gets the larger it looks. a close-up or an extreme close-up could make the viewer think that the subject is larger then it is.

                     1951 ... Ridgeway to Korea!

The three variables I would say were used in this picture would be insufficient light, the angle used would be at eye level and the proximity would be medium long. I think this picture of Matt Ridgeway makes him look tough, because the lighting is dark and he's not looking directly at the camera, making us feel like were not his main priority but whatever he's looking at in the picture is. Or that he's also feeling inspired because he's just staring at a distance and thinking about something else. The camera angle would be at eye level, making him look more equal to us or someone you're able to approach, but with the background being all black it makes you focus more on him and making him look a bit intimidating. the proximity would probably medium long, because hes not too far, but his face isn't to close to the camera either. I think him wearing his uniform makes him look more professional it shows that he's someone important.

Advertisements

Robin Hood Ad:
The ad I chose was the Robin Hood ad for all purpose flour. This commercial shows two siblings talking about the memories they've had from baking muffins using, Robin Hoods all purpose flour. I think techniques that were used in this commercial were: cartoon, humour and family. The most dominant technique would probably be that it's a cartoon. It catches the attention of people, not a lot of commercials are animated and some people like watching cartoons because it either brings them back to there childhood or reminds them of other animated characters. I think these techniques were used in this commercial because people would remember it more. I think that this ad was effective because I remember watching it about a year ago and when I see Robin Hoods flour I would think of this commercial.

Persuasion

Persuasion:
When a company tries to convince the person to buy their product (advertisements). In class we talked about the different topics of persuading someone into buying their products, the topics were: humour, macho, friends, family, fun, nature, sexy, cartoon celebrity and wealth. We played a game which involved us finding the different ways of persuading in commercials, or another form of advertisements. We each had partners and had all of the topics in an envelope. we would take out one topic from the envelope and find an ad that used the technique. Then our partner would have to guess what our topic was. Who ever found all of  the topics and had emptied their envelopes would win.

Techniques:

Humour:  Something that would make the viewer laugh.(ad)

Macho: Strong, tough (usually male). being dangerous.(ad)

Friends: A group of people doing things together, having fun.(ad)

Family:
A family enjoying themselves, or the product.(ad)

Fun: A person or people being happy or laughing.(ad)

Nature: An ocean, desert, beach something outdoors.(ad)

Sexy: Usually a female(s), models, may show revealing clothes. or acting in a flirty way.(ad)

Cartoon: an animation of people or animals. humour may also be involved.(ad)

Celebrity: a famous person (singer, actor/actress, dancer, athlete). (ad)

Wealth: Showing more expensive clothes, or a richer house (bigger house, nicer car). (ad)

Siloam Mission

Siloam Mission
The topic I chose for this project is Siloam mission, Siloam mission is an organization in Winnipeg that helps the homeless by giving them food and a place to stay. They also provide clothes and help find jobs for the residents. Siloam Mission is a Non-profit organization and Christian humanitarian agency. This foundation is a strong believer of god.

"We believe that unless we experience God’s help and salvation through a faith commitment to Jesus Christ, our future is one of eternal separation from God and all that is good."(Siloam)

Siloam Mission from Handcraft on Vimeo.

How They've Helped
This organization has helped many people through the tough time in there life. Jill was a former resident of Siloam, she came to Siloam after her husband and herself had a divorce and she had no where to go. Now she is back on track with her life and has made a goal for herself to go back to school and also to get a job working in a nursery."I came to Siloam Mission and they straightened me out, offered me a chance to get myself back together,My life and my attitude toward homeless people have changed 110%.” (Jill).

Brent was another former resident of Siloam , he started off as a soccer player in Portugal . When he left Winnipeg to go to Portugual he grew an addiction to cocaine. When he came back to Winnipeg he went to Siloam and they helped him with his addiction. Now he is a Full-time worker in Siloam.“They’re offering a job and they care for you, so… you can’t beat that,”(Brent).

On Thanksgiving, 900 meals were served. The demand of food has gone up by 15%  over the last years. However they still manage to serve 400-500 people a day (Writer).

This organization never judges people by what they are going through or what they have been through. They care more about them feeling at home and let them know that they are loved.

"We want to be an organization that sees people for who they are, not for their situation or circumstance in life." (Sarah Enns)

Siloam Mission has been around since 1987 and I think that shows how dedicated and how much they really care about each person who walks through their door everyday. So many people go through things in there life. I'm guessing that being homeless is a scary thing, being alone, or having a family to support but not being able to .But no matter how many people there are, Siloam Mission is always there to help. I think that gives people a lot of comfort, hope and lets them know, that they're not alone.

Look up! The Orionids are peaking!

" A few weeks ago, Discovery Space readers from Europe witnessed the peak of the Draconids meteor shower that produced around 300 meteors per hour. On Friday evening at around 21:00 GMT, another meteor shower peaks: the Orionids."(Artical)

A comet is made up of rocks and ice, when the comet gets closer to the sun, the ice melts and turns into vapor. That process is called "Sublimation". Smaller pieces of rocks (from the comet) fall down , around the earths atmosphere. The most recent meteor shower came from Halleys Comet, which only comes every 76 years, the meteor showers from Halleys Comet would be called Orionids, because they come annually. Halleys Comet produces 30 meteors per minute.

Purpose of Blogging

Blogs are made for a reason. Different writers have different purposes of why they have made a blog. Three examples would be. One to give out Information to the readers, one made to Entertain, and some made to Persuade the readers:

Inform:
When a blog is made to inform the reader of different topics, or whatever the reader is interested in. Redstate talks about current events in politics. I thought it was a good blog because a lot of people want to know about recent things that have happened like, elections or about things the president has done. Bloglockers shows daily news about scores for professional sports. They have different categories for each type of sport. This blog shows old and new scores, in case someone would have missed a game. Both of these blogs gives information about their own topics.

To Persuade:
When the writer tries to convince the reader to support their idea or opinion. Gizmodo tries to convince people to buy different types of gadgets, by giving advice on what gadgets are worth your money or showing different types to choose from. They call their blog a guide. Life hacker tries to convince readers to get more apps or to download things by showing you ways to make things easier to download or talking about apps that can help you. I think both of these blog are made to persuade because they are both trying to get you to want something.

Entertainment:
When a blog is filled with interesting, or anything else that would entertain the reader. Popeater talks about what is happening in celebrities lives and what they're up to. It has articles talking about different celebrities. It was like reading a magazine and even though its not important to know what celebrities are doing, it was interesting to read. Slashfilm has reviews for different movies, and recommends movies to the readers. these two blogs are for entertainment because they are about things that people can read about, for Fun.
